Mining West of Chesterfield

Chesterfield was once the centre of a widespread mining industry for coal, clay and other minerals (click HERE for details). There are existing websites on various aspects of this but nothing that collates the information in one place.

I lived in Chesterfield when I was young and can remember the working mines, as well as the remains of closed mines, great places to play around despite the danger of open shafts. I originally intended to just cover Newbold and Loundsley Green, where I grew up, but have expanded the area of interest to cover the mining that took place to the west of Chesterfield town centre as far out as Baslow. Maybe one day I will increase the area of coverage.
